A Married Couple Becomes Fretful About Their Excessive and Abusive Drinking and Questions Whether They Manifest Any Alcohol Addiction Signs
Jerry and Sarah have been married for five years. They wanted to experience some excitement and fun before they decided to have a family and so they deliberately developed an especially vigorous social life.
The basic issue, it needs to be stressed, is that just about everything they do for excitement somehow involves drinking. For example, all of the parties with friends, happy hours, sporting events, family get-togethers, and dinner engagements they attend include drinking.
Jerry and Sarah Begin to See Some Obvious Alcohol Related Issues That are Related to Their Irresponsible Drinking
If they were infrequent drinkers, this wouldn’t be a big deal. Given the fact that they drink quite excessively, nevertheless, they are beginning to see some clear-cut alcohol-related difficulties in their lives.
For instance, just four days ago Jerry received his first DUI and has been ignoring responsibilities at work due to alcohol-related health issues. In addition, Jerry’s last two performance evaluations at work have been less than commendable and he has begun to fail to recall what he says or does while he drinks. Lastly, Jerry has been experiencing sleep-related problems and his family is starting to get anxious about his drinking activities.
Not unlike Jerry’s situation, Sarah has been feeling unhappy about life in general and to cope with this, she has been drinking more than any time in the past three years. Furthermore, Sarah has been experiencing quite a few throbbing headaches and experiencing excruciating hangovers due to her drinking. As a final point, Sarah has been feeling significantly less active in the morning, she has been getting to work late almost every Monday, and she has been receiving some insensitive criticism from her relatives, family members, coworkers, and friends about her irresponsible drinking.
Watching the TV and Inadvertently Discovering A Special Program About the Signs of Alcoholism
One Wednesday evening while watching the television, Sarah and Jerry stumbled upon a special documentary about the signs of alcoholism.
This television documentary was a real realization to Sarah and Jerry because some of the alcoholism signs that were talked about seemed like they were unwaveringly correlated with many of the alcohol-related drinking problems Jerry and Sarah had been experiencing.
An Open Discussion About Drinking Situations Brings to Light Alcohol Related Employment, Health, Legal, Financial, and Relationship Problems
After watching the TV special, Sarah and Jerry made up their minds to have a frank chat about their drinking situation. They both were in agreement that most, if not all, of their social functions were associated with drinking, that they were drinking abusively, and that as a couple, they were starting to note alcohol related health, financial, relationship, employment, and legal problems for the first time since they were married.
With thoughts of the television special still imprinted in her mind, Sarah asked Jerry if some of the alcoholism signs they have been exhibiting could be an indication that they are addicted to alcohol or perhaps becoming dependent on alcohol. Jerry didn’t know the answer to Sarah’s inquiry and so he recommended that they make an appointment with one of the healthcare professionals at the nearby substance abuse rehabilitation center to find out more about the severity of their drinking situation.
Focusing On Your Drinking Difficulties Might Reduce Your Fear and Give You A Degree of Peacefulness
Paradoxically, although their drinking behavior hadn’t yet changed, it was clear that Sarah and Jerry were at the very least attending to their drinking problems, they were excited about finding out more about their drinking situation, and they were interested in finding out how they could substantially cut down the severity or do away with the drinking-related problems that had started to worsen.
When Jerry and Sarah went to bed that evening, they determined that the next day, Jerry would call and make an appointment for both of them at the drug and alcohol rehab clinic located downtown. After they made a promise to one another that they would do whatever it takes to rise above the alcohol-related difficulties that had developed in their lives, they actually had the most refreshing night’s sleep they could think of in the last year.
Just before she fell asleep, Sarah turned to Jerry and noted how painless it is to lessen one’s anxiety and truly experience some serenity by dealing with one’s problems head-on and coming to a decision to do something productive about them.
